Beta. Screenshots, recording, replay, editors and lesson mode — in one window.

Windows · soon

Replay

Already mid-game or mid-call? Press the shortcut to keep the last minutes, even if you weren’t recording. The buffer holds up to 15 minutes.

Ctrl+Alt+R

Lesson mode

Draw right on top of your screen: pen, marker, arrows, numbered steps, laser and spotlight. While recording, your marks go into the video.

Everything in one window.

The main things the Windows app does. Keys are the defaults; change any of them in settings.

  • Window privacy

Pick the windows that must stay out of recordings and screenshots: you see them, the recording doesn’t.

Windows 10 version 2004 or later.

  • Replay

Already mid-game or mid-call? Keep the last minutes with one key. The buffer holds up to 15 minutes.

  • Compression

Fit a video for a chat or an email. Compare before and after — the original stays where it is.

Who lacuna is for.

The match is on — keep the last minutes with one key.

Replay works on any graphics card, with a buffer of up to 15 minutes. Recording up to 4K at 120 fps, without a watermark or a length limit.

Keep personal things personal.

A new file opens only with its link and stays out of the feed. For each file, you choose who sees it and for how long.

  • Link only

New files open for people with the link. In settings you can make them private by default.

  • Password and expiry

Protect a link with a password and set when it stops working.

  • One-time links

Opens in one browser for 10 minutes, then access closes.

  • Encrypted storage

Files are stored encrypted on the server. This is encryption at rest, not end-to-end.

When to pick another app

Lightshot
You only need an area screenshot with a short link and no sign-up, and public links are fine.
Snagit
You write guides: step capture exported to PowerPoint and Word, Camtasia integration, a Mac version.
NVIDIA App
You have a GeForce RTX and only need game capture: free, up to 240 fps on RTX 40 and 50, AV1, auto clips.

What’s new.

All changes
  1. Version 0.4.29 ·

Photo is faster on large documents

A brush under many styles, blur and sharpen, the wand and healing after long work, repeated undo and wheel zoom no longer stall. History keeps changes as tiles and no longer eats memory.

  2. Version 0.4.28 ·

Photo without the PC load, the pen and gradients as in Photoshop

Brushes, the eraser, the airbrush and smudge no longer load the computer: moving the mouse no longer rebuilds the document, and a stroke draws only its new dabs. The pen and gradients work as in Photoshop, PDF and AI open and drop, and an uploaded code folder has its own link card.

  3. Version 0.4.27 ·

No white window when Win + Shift + S starts lacuna

When lacuna is closed and Win + Shift + S starts it, the main window can no longer flash on screen: until it is first shown it waits beyond the screen edge and takes its place in the center only when you open it. The start journal now records any stray window if one still appears.

  4. Version 0.4.26 ·

PDF and AI in Photo, a magic wand that no longer crashes

Smart objects from PDF and Illustrator are redrawn from the file and stay sharp at any zoom; PDF and AI can be placed into a document from the page of your choice. The crash of the Magic Wand and other tools at some window widths is fixed, and tool options now fold into «…» one by one.

Questions

Didn’t find an answer? Support

Do I need an email?

No. When you sign up, lacuna gives you a secret key — that’s how you sign in. Keep it in a password manager: there’s no email recovery.

Can I use it now?

Yes, but new accounts need an invitation from the administrator or a lacuna user. If you already have an account, just sign in.

How is lacuna different from Lightshot?

Lightshot takes screenshots and posts them at an open link. lacuna also has screen recording, replay, lesson mode and window privacy, and a link can have a password, an expiry or a single visit. Point-by-point comparison
