Windows app and device key

The lacuna app for Windows connects to your account through the browser and gets a key of its own, the device key. There is no need to create a key by hand.

Connecting through the browser

  1. In the app, choose “Sign in with browser”.
  2. The site’s connection page opens: check the computer’s name and press “Connect”.
  3. The app exchanges a one-time code for its key (PKCE S256) and keeps it in the Windows Credential Manager.

The code works for 5 minutes and only once. If something fails, start connecting in the app again.

The device key

  • It is named “lacuna для Windows · {computer}”, has account:read + content:write and lasts 365 days.
  • A new connection of the same computer revokes its previous key.
  • Device keys are listed in the console under “Devices”, not among access keys; “Disconnect” revokes the key at once.

Renewal

Within 30 days of the end, the app renews its key by itself: it gets a new one for 365 days, and the old one keeps working for 10 minutes so requests on their way can finish. A renewal is sent once and never repeated on a lost answer: a repeat revokes both keys.

A key by hand

If browser sign-in is not possible, create a key with the “For lacuna Windows” preset in the console (API) and paste it into the app: the “API key” field, then “Connect account”.
