Your file stays with you
The video is not uploaded to lac.pics or anywhere else: your browser processes it, on your device. No sign-up needed. You need an account only to save the result to lacuna and send a link: then the file goes to “Uploads” in your account.
Questions
Is the video uploaded to a server?
The video is processed in this tab, on your device: the FFmpeg engine (WebAssembly) is downloaded from lac.pics with the first job — about 30 MB — and then runs locally. The file is not sent anywhere. It reaches lacuna only if you press “Save to lacuna” and sign in.
Why did the start of the segment move a little?
Without re-encoding, a video is cut at keyframes, so the start may differ from the chosen time by a fraction of a second. Turn on “Exact trim”: the video is re-encoded and starts exactly where you set it.
Can I join several videos?
“Join video files” puts together 2 to 8 videos, up to 200 MB and 30 minutes in all. The frame is like the first video’s, 16:9, 9:16 or 1:1.
What video do I get?
An MP4 with H.264 and AAC: it plays on phones, in messengers and browsers. You can choose the quality and the maximum width before processing; the original stays unchanged.
Why does processing take a while?
Exact trimming, joining and effects re-encode the video on your device’s processor, so a long clip takes longer. Keep the tab open while it works. The lacuna app for Windows edits faster.
